Samādhāna_ Melodies of Gratitude – SOLD OUT

Co-presented by Small World Music Society & the Riyaz Institute of Hindustani Music.

An evening of Hindustani classical and semi-classical vocal music presented by talented local artists, including khyal, bhajan, thumri and tappa. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, all compositions will be woven around the theme of “gratitude”.

Samidha Joglekar – Vocalist

Born in New Brunswick and raised in Guelph, Samidha began learning Hindustani classical vocal music in Toronto
at age 9 under the guidance of Shri. Narendra Datar. In addition, she studied vocal music through the Royal Conservatory up to level 10. A recipient of grants from the Ontario Arts Council and the Shashtri Indo-Canadian Institute, Samidha has furthered her study of Hindustani music in India under renowned vocalists Smt. Veena Sahasrabhudde and Dr. Prabha Atre. Samidha is a versatile vocalist and has performed and recorded extensively contributing to many cross-cultural works. An original album of Bhajans (devotional songs) called Kirtan Karlo features Samidha’s singing and is available on Spotify Music.



Zaheer Abbas Janmohamed – Tabla

Zaheer-Abbas was born in Toronto and brought up in Calgary, where he began learning tabla at a young age. As a recipient of an Arts Fellowship award from the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute, he moved to India between academic years to pursue his study of classical tabla. A pupil of Allarakha’s disciple Prafulla Athalye, Zaheer-Abbas belongs to the Punjab tradition of tabla made famous by the great Ustad Allarakha.

Hardeep Chana – Harmonium

Being immersed and raised in a musical atmosphere, Hardeep began learning from within his family at first. He sought guidance for accompaniment from Professor Ranjit Singh learning Taus or Mayoori Veena. Today, he continues his studies as a Harmonium accompanist with Shri Tanmay Deochake.
