Originally founded as a place for Black artists to create, nurture, and present their new works, b current company has grown to support artists from all diasporas. We strived over two decades to create space for diverse voices to be heard, always with a focus on engaging the communities from which our stories emerge. Our audiences identify with our work through ethnic experience, social values, or political awareness. Our award-winning professional training program has graduated scores of nationally and internationally acclaimed artists such as Weyni Mengesha, d’bi young, Joseph Jomo Pierre, and trey anthony. Since it began, our now bi-ennial rock.paper.sistahz Festival has been a springboard for numerous award-winning new works. We also launch new opportunities like afteRock Plays, our series for professional artists to platform their work as co-producers. In our revisioned training program - the bcHub - we cultivate both emerging and seasoned artists in career and community arts through experiential/hands-on development work. In our 25th Anniversary Season, we presented the 14th edition of our rock.paper.sistahz Festival in May 2016, and will bring diaspora Dub to multiple locations in Toronto. OUr 2014 production of Brotherhood: The Hip Hopera by Sebastien Heins will go on a national tour in January/February 2017.
